Leuven, April 17 2008 - Metris (MTRS, Euronext Brussels) releases RCA, a revolutionary Robot CMM Arm that is designed to increase the speed, flexibility and accuracy of repetitive 3D laser scanning inspection jobs on the shop floor or in the assembly line. Patented RCA technology combines the system’s accurate internal 7-axis articulated measurement arm with an external skeleton driven by electric motors. Featuring absolute measurement accuracy and 7 degrees of motion freedom, RCA is capable of reliably inspecting inner cavity locations that are otherwise difficult to access.
After announcing its RCA development plans at the acquisition of 3D Scanners and reconfirming these plans in the IPO prospectus, Metris releases the robotized RCA arm fully within the original time line. At the occasion of the 2008 Control Show in Stuttgart, Germany, Metris will next week demonstrate the RCA while running non-stop inspection on a vehicle body structure.

Driven by a growing micro metrology market and laser scanning segment, RCA’s automatic laser inspection capability responds to the need for improving quality and decreasing cycle times. RCA is a flexible solution that increases measurement productivity wherever repetitive inspection is performed on series of parts or part variants. The RCA covers the entire application range starting with pre-production batches and small production series, over sample-based inspection in or next to the production line, to in-line inspection during assembly.
