Machined surfaces of both engine and transmission components have very strict dimensional and form tolerances in order to guarantee their proper operation, a reduced fuel consumption and a long life time. In order to evaluate cylinder head flatness and bore cylindricity, a large quantity of surface points has to be measured very accurately. In this case a CMM equipped with an analog scanning probe is the best solution.
The Metris LK Libero CMM has shown market leading results in the ISO10360-4 scanning test that has been designed to evaluate both the accuracy AND the time taken to achieve that accuracy.
The Libero is designed to deliver optimum speed and accuracy within an industrial environment. The Metris LK Camio software provides all the geometric data required for powertrain inspection and has a transparent link to Q-DAS.
Gears
Due to the complex shape of gears, analog scanning is here also the best alternative. Measured data can be processed in the Metris LK Gear software or in any other specialized gear inspection package.
Engine and transmission housing
The inspection of cast engine and transmission housings using laser scanning results in a maximum of surface information in the shortest possible time. The visualization of the deviation of these point clouds to the original CAD data provides powerful insights into where deviations occur.
Metris laser scanners can be mounted on the complete range of Metris LK CMM and are fully supported in the Camio CMM software. Metris Scan supports the LC/XC scanners on 3rd party CMM. Through Focus Automation, the whole measurement and inspection process – using Focus Inspection - can be automated.
